Mike Baker

Mike was elected as the Liberal Democrat Councillor for West Purbeck in May 2024. He serves as Dorset Council’s Armed Forces Member Champion and chairs the pan-Dorset Armed Forces Covenant Board.

Mike grew up in Purbeck, attending state schools in Wool, Bovington and Wareham, and now lives in West Lulworth. A former Royal Navy engineer officer, he served for 29 years in diverse UK and international roles—including at Portland Naval Base, the Ministry of Defence, and in Riyadh on the MOD Saudi Armed Forces Project.

Following his naval career, Mike worked as a technical management consultant in the oil and gas sector and later became Operations Director of a Poole-based technology company. He holds an MBA from Manchester Business School and an MA in International Communication and Liaison. Now mostly retired, he continues to take on interesting consulting projects and remains passionate about serving his local community.
