Corfe Mullen

Scott Florek
Scott has lived in Corfe Mullen for 12 years with his partner and his dog, Darcie. Although he was born and raised in a city he much prefers and appreciates the rural aspect and environment of Corfe Mullen. Scott works locally; he often uses public transport to travel to work and understands the importance of this network.
Scott represents Corfe Mullen on Dorset Council and the Town Council, he enjoys listening to residents, advocating for them and raising their concerns. He has the experience to represent our community.
He has a strong track record of volunteering in the community. Scott, along with his ward colleague Duncan, has worked hard to raise much needed funds for the people of Ukraine as well as closer to home raising funds for the Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.
Scott has always been interested in environmental issues and is particularly passionate about protecting our greenbelt from over development to ensure they remain a resource for the community and for the wildlife that live in our area.
Scott likes to keep fit and regularly plays Badminton at a local gym. He is an avid reader and is the Chairman of the Friends of Corfe Mullen Library, where he is seeking to increase activities for residents to enjoy. He also enjoys gardening and can often be found walking his dog, Darcie, on the local heathland.

Cllr Duncan Sowry-House is a lifelong Dorset resident with a deep-rooted passion for community, public service, and safeguarding the environment. Born and raised in the county, Duncan settled in Corfe Mullen more than 20 years ago, where he lives with his family and continues to champion local issues with energy and empathy.
Duncan is a man of various skills and experiences, he is the founder of his own engineering company and also spent 15 years serving the local community as a Postmaster—a role that strengthened his understanding of residents’ day-to-day needs and challenges.
Duncan has served as a Town Councillor and has held the position of Chairman and Mayor of Corfe Mullen for the past seven years. His leadership has been marked by hands-on dedication, most notably during the COVID-19 lockdown when he, alongside his ward colleague Scott, personally delivered nearly 4,000 prescriptions to vulnerable residents.
Duncan's community engagement extends far beyond traditional politics. He volunteers with the Corfe Mullen Youth Trust, has been both a Local Authority and Parent Governor at his children’s schools, and has even worked as a voluntary classroom assistant—experience that has fuelled his advocacy for inclusive, child-centred education.
In addition, he provides mainstream activities for adults with learning difficulties and is the founder of FireWise UK – Wessex, a local initiative helping residents protect their homes against the increasing threat of wildfires. His dedication to environmental and social safety led to his role as Chair of the Local Performance Scrutiny Committee for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority.
Elected as one of Corfe Mullen’s Ward Councillor to Dorset Council, Duncan has made significant contributions on county-wide issues. He is particularly proud of his successful motion for Dorset to become the first Rights Respecting Unitary Authority in the country, aligning the council’s policies with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. A passionate child protection advocate, he enjoys active involvement with the Corporate Parenting Board and Dorset’s Virtual School programme.
Duncan currently serves as:
- Chair, Strategic and Technical Planning Committee
- Vice Chair, Eastern Region Planning Committee

- Chair, Local Performance Scrutiny for Dorset – Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority
- Deputy Group Leader, Dorset Liberal Democrats
Outside of his formal roles, Duncan is an avid reader, gardener, and dog-walker. He collects and lectures on Poole Pottery and shares his horticultural knowledge through a regular column, Gardening Matters, in the local Link Magazine.
Duncan’s work continues to reflect his core values: equality of opportunity, service, inclusion, and safeguarding the future of both people and place.
