Vikki Slade MP Campaigns To Stop Canford Magna Incinerator

The MP says that their worst fears have been confirmed about the proposed development.

Calling on the Inspector to refuse the appeal, Vikki Slade MP said - “This development is bad for the local environment, offers little to no benefit to the community and will create even more problems on our roads.”

The proposed waste-to-energy incinerator in Canford Magna was rejected by Lib Dem-led BCP Council in June 2025. MVV appealed the rejection in February 2026 and the appeal hearing started earlier this month.

New information has come to light as part of the appeal hearing which Vikki Slade MP believes to be crucial to the viability of the proposals.

“I have been following the appeal process closely and I am appalled that our worst fears have been confirmed. Documents disclosed by the developer reveal that the catchment area for waste shows that only 20% will come from the Dorset and BCP area.”

“This means that the lorry movements, with the associated pollution and traffic will have a major negative impact on local people and my concerns, as shared with the Prime Minster back in March 2025, that there will be a need to ‘Feed The Monster’ are correct .”

The proposed waste incinerator will be designed to burn up 260,000 tonnes of waste each year and the plans featured a 110-metre (360ft) tall chimney stack.

The Mid Dorset and North Poole MP also noted that whilst the plant initially claimed it would use the heat and power generated to benefit the local community “the proposal gives no assurance that the generated heat or energy will be used, or that local communities will benefit.”

Vikki Slade MP - "The Inspector should listen to local people and determine that far from supporting a circular economy, this development undermines it and she should refuse the appeal."

The inspector is expected to make their determination in late summer. Vikki Slade has stated that she intends to write to the Minister, having raised her concerns during the debate on the carbon budget, to urge them to refuse any future incinerator proposals.
