Lib Dem MP Vikki Slade joins cross-party call to support WASPI women
Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, Vikki Slade, has joined more than 100 MPs from across Parliament, demanding the Government finally do the right thing for WASPI women and bring forward compensation proposals.
Women born in the 1950 are understandably frustrated by the failure of the former Conservative Government to listen to the Ombudsman, and the Labour Governments indecision about whether they should be compensated for the injustice against them
In Dorset, support for WASPI women from MPs has been limited. While both Liberal Democrat MPs in Dorset backed the call, underlining the party’s commitment to securing justice for affected women, only one Labour MP and no Conservative MPs from the county signed the letter.
The cross-party letter urges ministers to bring forward compensation proposals without further interruption. Liberal Democrats say successive Governments have repeatedly failed WASPI women and are now compounding that injustice by ignoring independent recommendations for fair compensation.
Commenting, Vikki Slade MP said:
“Women born in the 1950s have suffered a clear injustice through no fault of their own, yet the Government continues to ignore the Ombudsman’s recommendations."
“After years of delay and denial, the Government must finally bring forward fair compensation for WASPI women in Mid Dorset and North Poole and across the country. Further delay causes more pain and prolongs the injustice."
“Liberal Democrats have and will continue to lead on this issue.”
