More new driving examiners are being recruited in Poole after Vikki Slade MP raised concerns about the ongoing driving test backlog affecting learner drivers in the area.

Following concerns raised by a local constituent who had significant issues booking a test and was left in a queue of more than 17,000 people, Vikki has been fighting to address this issue. She pressed ministers who recognised the acute problems and, working with the DVSA, committed not only to more examiners but to address the issue of those selling test appointments and bots undermining fair access.

Vikki said on this issue: “For young people in rural Dorset, learning to drive is often the difference between being able to work and being stuck at home. The DVSA backlog has left many young people in limbo and while the new examiners will help locally, the wider system still needs reform so that everyone can get access to a test quickly and with ease.”
