Dorset Council: Delivering on Housing

The Lib Dems are taking real action on their pledge to increase the amount of housing for local people to rent, and reduce the use of emergency Bed and Breakfast for homeless families.
Cllr Steve Robinson said: “Working with the Bus Shelter project in Weymouth and Julian House, we have managed to take most rough sleepers off the streets and into safe temporary accommodation. The Council have taken long leases on private properties and use them for families who were in Emergency Bed and Breakfast as a short term measure.”
Dorset Council will be providing proper supported housing that meets the needs of residents. They are also working on acquiring existing houses to rent and looking at using council-owned properties and land for building ‘Council Houses’. Cllr Alex Brenton also chaired a meeting to form a strategy for bringing empty and neglected houses into use.
Cllr Shane Bartlett said: “The Lib Dems have stood firmly behind our housing pomises. We have still prioritised quality over quantity when delivering these solutions - making make sure everyone in Dorset has a place to call home.”
