Our rights are under threat - help us protect them

It came to light this week that the Government may be rolling back on the rights of women and girls to have autonomy over their bodies and maintain their reproductive rights. We have written to the MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole to call on him to maintain the UK’s leading role in Human Rights around the world.

The last year has seen worrying developments with the Policing Act restricting the right to protest and with the contenders for Prime Minister talking about repealing the Human Rights Act - it is crucial that we make our voices heard.

Please sign our petition to maintain this and send a message to the Conservatives that we value our rights and want to see the rights of people in other parts of the world improved.

Locally we also want to see the rights of women seeking medical care protected and have supported the introduction of a Safe Zone around the abortion clinic in Bournemouth. Please do respond to the consultation that is open until the end of August, which will prevent visitors, staff and patients to the clinic being subjected to harassment and intimidation. You can complete the consultation HERE – please do read the questions carefully as some residents have told us they are a little confusing.

We have reported these concerns to the BCP Council communities’ team. You can add comments in the ‘further thoughts’ section of the survey, and you can download a paper copy from the website and return this by email or via any BCP Council library.
