The death this summer of 18 year old Callum Baker-Osborne, whilst trying to rescue his family from the treacherous water at Rockley Point has shocked so many people.
Broadstone Councillor Vikki Slade met with his family to hear more about the circumstances and listen to their concerns for other families. She also met local residents who had suffered near misses due to the rip tides and currents in Poole Harbour and heard their frustration at different organisations trying to pass responsibility for taking action to each other.
The petition calls on BCP Council to upgrade the signage and safety equipment and to work with Haven, the RNLI and the Harbour Commission to prevent something like this ever happening again.
Cllr Vikki Slade, one of those supporting and organising the petition said: “The people of Poole felt this tragedy and I’ve never seen such a willingness to take action, it is truly heart-warming to see people approach us to sign the petition which can now be found on the council website. We need 2000 signatures for this to be heard by the council at the next meeting in November.
You can sign the petition on the BCP website HERE
