Check your account for your £150 rebate

Energy rebates for eligible homes have now been paid to residents living in Poole who pay their Council Tax by direct debit.

The payment is not a discount on council tax, but a rebate from the Government intended to offset some of the increase in energy bills. Councils were asked to administer it to homes in council tax bands A-D as a quick and efficient method of payment.

The intention of focusing threbate on this group of homes is to target the benefit but it does not recognise that in some communities residents can be asset rich and cash poor - living in a family home but unable to heat it. There is a further group that is negatively affected and that is students, who do not pay council tax on their house-shares but are often paying the highest rates of energy as they pay via pre-pay meters. Vikki has written to the MP to query this, as this group are effectively hit twice over. We will let you know if we receive a reply.

If you do not pay your council tax via Direct Debit and live in a qualifying property, you should be receiving a letter explaining how you can claim the £150. If you have not received this by the end of the month, please let us know and we will chase it.

Anyone who does not qualify for the rebate but is struggling with the cost of living may be eligible for the Household Support Grant which is also coordinated through the council.

Please do contact Vikki or Mike if you think this might apply and we will do what we can to assist with an application.
