Save the No.18 Bus!

Conservative led Council to cut No. 18 bus route Saved!

Update: We presented a petition with 1000 signatures to Poole Council and are pleased to confirm the No.18 Loop through Broadstone is to be retained, albeit at a slightly reduced service. The last two journeys will be cut, otherwise the service remains unchanged. As always, the message is use it or lose it.

Thank you to everyone who signed this petition. This time you have been listened to.

Local campaigner, Vikki Slade and Councillor Mike Brooke have launched a campaign to save the No. 18 bus route from cuts to bus services.

Poole Council are looking to slash another £152,000 from their budget and hope that cutting the Broadstone bus service will save £19,000.

Vikki Slade, who led the campaign to save the No. 32 bus said: “This bus route is used by elderly and vulnerable people who want to live independently. Poole Council can’t continue to target cuts at people who rely on public transport to get about.”

petitionpic2.pngCllr Mike Brooke said: “We urge local residents to support our petition and reply to the Council’s consultation before 13th November.”

The cuts would mean that the No. 18 would cease to loop round Broadstone before heading back towards Bournemouth.

Please do sign Vikki and Mike's petition today. The Council are running an online consultation until 13th November, visit poole.gov.uk/bussubsidies to have you say.

many Broadstone residents are dependent upon this service to get into Broadstone Centre to do their shopping. Yet another cut in services in Poole’s suburbs, as with the No.32 last year, not only isolates many elderly people who depend upon the bus, but it also has a negative impact upon the local centre because many of these people do shop locally. Yet again it is the vulnerable who are most affected.

With austerity being imposed upon the relatively disadvantaged (in tems of cash), it seems ridiculous to require them also to spend more time becoming lonelier (more isolated) at home because they cannot get out and about easily by bus. Councillors need to find ways in which to increase their resources without trying to get blood from a stone. or making demands on social care services and education services more onerous. If Cabinet dictat is to prevail much longer, perhaps the payments to other Conservative Councillors could be dramatically reduced, since the way in which they appear to exercise their role in scrutiny (let alone in representing the views of their whole electorate) would seem wastefully expensive.

Keep local transport for schoolchildren and pensioners….reduce the congestion and pollution around our towns….it’s common sense….

UnACCEPTABLE to get rid of this MUCH needed resource to get our children to and from school. In these hard times bith parents have to work longer hours and are NOT always there to take or collect their children and rely on this bus service. How dare this be on the list of cuts!???? Beggars belief!

My son relies on this bus to get home from Broadstone from middle school. Otherwise he would have to walk over 2 miles to get home and especially in the dark. He was not happy when it rained one day and he was soaked getting home.
