5.6% fall in unemployment in Mid Dorset and North Poole

New figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) giving unemployment figures for June 2010 have shown that the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in the constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole has fallen by 5.6 per cent in the last month.

Lib Dem win in Corfe Mullen By Election

Lib Dem candidate Philip Harknett won a resounding victory in the East Dorset District Council by election for Corfe Mullen South ward on Thursday 15th July. The by election had been called after former Councillor Stewart Hearn resigned in protest at the Council's lack of action on a number of core issues, including providing affordable housing in the area.

Good news for park home owners - Annette Brooke MP

Just one week after Annette Brooke's Prime Minister's Question on park homes, a Written Ministerial Statement released today by the Department for Communities and Local Government has announced that the Government will lay before Parliament the necessary legislation to transfer the jurisdiction that County Courts have under the Mobile Homes Act 1983 over resolution of park home owners' disputes to Residential Property Tribunals.

Annette Brooke MP pledges to become Child Poverty Champion

Annette Brooke, Member of Parliament for Mid Dorset and North Poole, has been praised by the Child Poverty Action Group for pledging to become a 'Child Poverty Champion' working in her constituency to end child poverty by 2020. Annette has also pledged to work in parliament on national action that will held end child poverty for all UK children.

Annette Brooke MP calls for improved Ankylosing Spondylitis services

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, met with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) patients and experts last week to discuss the barriers to AS patients receiving the best care for the painful and disabling spinal condition. The patients were in Westminster for the launch of the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society's (NASS) report Looking Ahead which highlights the problems people with AS face due to delayed diagnosis and a lack of access to appropriate expertise and therapies.

Annette Brooke MP honoured for animal welfare stance

Annette Brooke MP has been honoured for her commitment to tackling cruelty to animals. The Protecting Animals in Democracy (PAD) project has presented Annette Brooke with a Certificate in recognition of her full support for their VOTE4ANIMALS 2010 manifesto in the run-up to the May General Election.

Annette Brooke MP champions a healthy start in life for babies

Annette Brooke MP this week attended the Breastfeeding Manifesto Coalition's National Breastfeeding Week parliamentary celebrations, where she joined over 190 other MPs in pledging her support to the Breastfeeding Manifesto. Annette has also agreed to be its new parliamentary champion, having supported the Manifesto since its launch in 2007.

Annette Brooke MP calls for greater efforts to stamp out bullying

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, yesterday called on the new coalition Government to tackle bullying head on. The challenge to do more than just make policies was made in a Westminster Hall debate that she tabled in Parliament. Annette has long been a champion of the anti-bullying cause, and in light of recent research completed by the Beatbullying charity concluding that bullying accounts for up to 44 per cent of child suicides, she raised concerns about the consistent implementation of anti-bullying policies - particularly beyond the school gates and on school buses.

Local MP warns: Mental health services are failing children with autism

Annette Brooke MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole has warned that thousands of children with autism in England are needlessly facing a future of mental health problems, because the NHS does not know how to help them. She is backing a new campaign by the National Autistic Society (NAS), You Need to Know, which aims to tackle an unfit mental health system that fails two thirds of children with autism and often makes their mental health worse.

Coalition agreement set to restore local democracy and scrap Regional Spatial Strategy

Annette Brooke has welcomed the joint policy statement from the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. In the Communities and Local Government section both parties have endorsed their own previous polices and have pledged to abolish Regional Spatial Strategies, protect the green belt and other valued green spaces and return decision making powers on housing and planning to local councils.

We will try and reply to everyone but because of the large volume of emails this may not be possible.
