"Studies in 2001 showed only 40% of 16 - 24 year olds voted in the General Election. In 2005, only 21% of the 18 - 30 bracket said they were absolutely certain to vote" said Annette. With changes in technology and the ease of communication across the internet, we really have the opportunity to encourage more young people to vote and have their say in how the country is run."
"Many young people do not vote because they move away to University or to start new jobs, but they often remain on the register in their home area. I hope to use the new popularity in social networking sites such as Facebook to give people in this age group a chance to voice their concerns to their Member of Parliament." Annette added.
Annette has set up an online youth survey, which is accessible both from facebook and her website. She is in contact with students to get feedback from across Mid Dorset and North Poole. The survey is accessible by using the following link:
