Annette Brooke Congratulates Children's Commissioner

Annette Brooke MP has welcomed the Knighthood of the first Children's Commissioner for England, Al Aynsley-Green, as announced in the Queen's 80th birthday Honours list.

Professor Aynsley-Green has been in the role since July 2005 and has provided an independent voice for children and young people, particularly supporting the disadvantaged and impoverished young. His career has been dedicated to improving the world in which children live, and to bringing their views and concerns to a national arena.

Annette Brooke, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Children, said:

"The hard work and dedication the Commissioner has displayed within the role has been deservedly rewarded. I am thrilled that his commitment to children and young people has been acknowledged in this way when so much work within this area seems to go unrecognised."

During a career of over 40 years, Professor Aynsley-Green has continued to promote the needs of children. A former Executive Director on the Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust Board, Professor Aynsley-Green dedicated his award to all children and young people, saying:

"It is a real privilege to receive the honour of a knighthood for services to children and young people. I am proud and thrilled - not just for myself but for all my colleagues, past and present, who work so tirelessly to improve the lives and health of children and young people."
