Councillor David Brown

About Me:

I have lived in the ward for over 20 years, initially in Bearwood and now in Merley with my wife and family.

I am a graduate of Bournemouth University and had a successful career in the local financial services industry, as well as looking after 50 children and young people in a 15 year career as a foster carer.

I am active in the local community, attending the Lantern Church and working as Vice Chair of Bearwood Community Centre. I am on the committees of Bearwood Social Club and Merley Neighbourhood Watch, and a volunteer at Bearwood Community Library.

My priorities:

  • to protect the green belt from inappropriate development whilst also supporting local affordable housing developments to ensure that young families have decent homes in which to bring up their children.
  • to work closely with the Safer Neighbourhood Team and Neighbourhood Watch to ensure that Merley, Canford Magna and Bearwood are among the safest places in the country to live.
  • to work with local people, residents’ associations and community organisations to continue to improve local facilities, and campaign for better public transport to support thriving local communities.
