Petition: Ask BCP Council to Extend Free School Meals

11,612 children qualify for free school meals across the county of Dorset.

BCP Liberal Democrats are calling on the Conservative Administration at BCP Council to step in where the Government has let down our most vulnerable children across our three towns.

We are asking that the council extend free school meals so that no child living in poverty in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole misses out - even during holidays and periods of lockdown.

After a high-profile campaign led by footballer Marcus Rashford, the Government provided food vouchers for the poorest families through the summer holidays.

However, Conservative MPs, including those in our area, voted not to extend the voucher scheme for future school holidays.

We want the Council to step in where our MPs have let children down and fund an extension to free school meals so no child living in poverty misses out, and guarantee vouchers for future school holidays and periods of lockdown.

Sign our petition to ensure those local families get the help they need, not just as a one-off but as part of a long term plan to end child hunger.

We the undersigned call on BCP council to step in where the Conservative Government have failed and fund free school meals to our poorest children over the school holidays because no child deserves to suffer or go hungry on any day of the year.
