Fred Drane

Lytchett Minster and Upton

Fred has a strong record of action in Upton and Lytchett Minster. He has represented the community as a Town Councillor since 2000, District Councillor since 2003 and as County Councillor since 2005. When DCC threatened to close Upton Library because of reduced funding, Fred formed the group 'Friends 4 Upton Library'. He has fought for funding for local schools including Lytchett Minster School where he secured finance plus an extra £1m from DCC for a replacement building.

One of his greatest achievements is his work on Upton’s roads and pavements. He has worked hard to improve the quality of the town’s road surfaces, provided safer cycle routes for residents, brought the pedestrian crossings up to date and started a Town Plan to secure a Lottery Grant to rejuvenate the town. He has also tackled a number of flooding issues in his jurisdiction so that people can live and travel safely in the area.

When he is not out campaigning, Fred likes to paint pictures of the Dorset landscape and often enters his work into local competitions.
